Interview with Jake Jenkins
Managing Director of Operations at Velocity Fitness
-
Interviewer: Jake, thank you for sitting down with me today. As we gear up for our major summer expansion, I want to capture the core vision of Velocity Fitness straight from the operations helm. To start off, what is the core mission behind Velocity Fitness, and what gaps are we actively trying to fill in the modern fitness market?
Jake Jenkins: At its core, Velocity Fitness is engineered to bridge a very specific gap in modern wellness. Right now, the industry is split—you either have luxury boutique spaces focused heavily on high-end lifestyle design, or performance facilities that track strict athletic metrics but lack community warmth. We completely fuse those elements. Velocity Fitness delivers a top-tier, scientifically backed training modality alongside a premium lifestyle aesthetic, while prioritizing absolute cultural inclusivity. We believe that tracking performance metrics and optimizing physical health shouldn't feel exclusive or intimidating; it should feel celebratory, community-focused, and deeply empowering.
2. Interviewer: That synergy between elite metrics and true community inclusivity is exactly what sets our tone. Speaking of pushing those boundaries, the brand is making a massive civic push with the launch of the "Motown Moves" initiative this summer. Can you explain the operational vision behind this campaign and what you hope it achieves across the Detroit metropolitan area?
Jake Jenkins: The "Motown Moves" campaign is our largest and most meaningful philanthropic expansion to date. From an operational standpoint, we are taking our high-octane group conditioning model and dropping it straight into open civic spaces, starting with our flagship festival at the Detroit Riverfront on July 11. Traditional premium fitness experiences are heavily gatekept by geographic barriers or steep membership costs. With this initiative, everything is free and accessible to the public—from specialized coaching to live local DJs. We have also partnered directly with local urban agricultural networks to build out mobile nutrition hubs supplying fresh, localized nutrition. We want to prove that premium athletic conditioning and solid nutritional education belong to every neighborhood in Detroit, helping to elevate public health metrics sustainably.
3. Interviewer: Fusing urban agriculture with high-energy coaching is definitely going to shake things up beautifully. For journalists or local organizers looking to collaborate or cover this movement, what is the best way for them to plug into our digital ecosystem, and what assets do we have available for public use?
Jake Jenkins: We want to make active coverage and collaboration completely seamless. We have launched a fully integrated, interactive digital media room at our website hub. Journalists, creators, and community leaders can head directly there to download high-resolution brand logos, our official photography library, and our detailed photo and logo usage style guides 24/7. Everything in that media vault is cleared for public promotional and editorial use. We are an open book, and we want our digital footprint to reflect the exact same transparent, community-first energy that you experience on our turf tracks.
